| QUEEN guitarist Brian May has paid
tribute to legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti with whom he shared
the stage at the 10th anniversary Pavarotti and Friends charity
concert in 2003 in Pavarotti's hometown of Modena, Italy. The opera
legend, 71, died on September 6 after losing a long battle with pancreatic
cancer. Writing on his official web site, BrianMay.com, May said, "I resisted talking about my moment of singing with Luciano when I wrote my small tribute… because I didn't want to use the occasion to do any self-advertisement. All I wanted to do was offer respects and love. "I see that the video of 'Too Much Love' [from the Pavarotti and Friends concert] has been hugely watched, yesterday and today ... and that makes me feel... all the strange things that go with sadness and loss. Mixed in, there are feelings of pride and joy that this moment should have happened. Strongest of all, perhaps, is that feeling, when someone passes on, of incomprehension, and disbelief. Why? What are we meant to be learning? Why are we still here? Maybe it's all a dream. Well, Luciano Pavarotti spun dreams for the world. A great man. A great loss. But his heavenly voice will be with us for a very long time." Brian had previously performed "Too Much Love Will Kill You" for Pavarotti in the very first Pavarotti and Friends concert held in 1992. Having returned to perform again just over ten years later, Pavarotti specially requested to perform the song as a duet with Brian. | Chrome Dreams has set a November 20
release date for the "Queen - Under Review 1946-1991: The Freddie
Mercury Story". According to a press release, "This
documentary includes historical musical performances re-assessed by a
panel of esteemed experts, as well as obscure footage, rare interviews and
rarely seen photographs. It also contains review, comment, criticism and
insight from; broadcaster and friend of Freddie, Paul Gambaccini;
nightclub owner (where Freddie often hung out) Peter
Stringfellow; close friend Wayne Sleep; rock journalists Malcolm
Dome, Mick Wall, Jerry Ewing and John Robb; DJ Paul
Burnett; and Freddie Mercury tribute artists Steve
Littlewood and Joseph Lee Jackson. In addition, live and studio
recordings of Mercury's finest moments have been added, as well as
footage of and comment on his pivotal musical influences. He's been called
the finest performer of the 20th century, the best showman of all time and
Mr. Entertainment himself — but these descriptions only go part of the
way in representing the extraordinary talents of Freddie Mercury.
How about unique songwriter? Gifted bandleader? Superb vocalist? Smart and
canny businessman? Freddie was all these and more and in this
documentary film his genius is put under the spotlight."

On October 29, 2007, Eagle Rock Entertainment will simultaneously
release two incredible DVDs capturing the incomparable QUEEN in
their pomp as the world's biggest band at a sold-out show in 1981 at
Montreal's 18,000-seater Forum. The single 95-minute DVD is "Queen
Rock Montreal", and there is a special edition double DVD "Queen
Rock Montreal + Live Aid", clocking in at 138 minutes of
footage. The live CD/LP from the concert is released on the same date on
EMI with HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions to follow in November
through Eagle.
Following their record-breaking South American tour, the Montreal shows on November 24 and 25, 1981 were to be the only concerts by QUEEN ever shot on film — indeed they were the first group to shoot an entire show in full cinema format 35mm. These releases offer the best ever sound and picture quality on a QUEEN concert release. Always a great live band, with two years non-stop touring behind them and Freddie Mercury in front of them, QUEEN excelled themselves with the cameras rolling. The footage has been digitally restored from the original film and the sound has been newly mixed and mastered for DTS Surround Sound and PCM Stereo from the original multi-track tapes. "Hello Montreal...long time no see. You wanna get crazy?" asks Freddie as the band tear into their alternative "fast" version of "We Will Rock You", and from there on QUEEN show their hard rock roots, slowing down only for "Love of My Life" and the more mid-tempo "Under Pressure", notably being performed live for the first time in this concert. The real joy to be had in watching Freddie, Brian, Roger and John performing here is that, unlike any other QUEEN concert film available, this delivers raw QUEEN. This is before the "Hot Space" album, before keyboards would find a place in the band's touring line up; this is simply four musicians in total cohesion. Originally titled "We Will Rock You", this film was first launched at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1983 — as only QUEEN could. It was then released in North America (September 1984), becoming the first commercially available film of QUEEN in concert. For this special edition, the picture has been digitally restored from the original 35mm negative. The double disc release offers the incredible bonus of a slew of Live Aid features and performances. Regularly polled as the greatest live performance of all time, QUEEN's mighty Live Aid show at 6:44pm on July 13, 1985, is here in full. In addition to the set that reinforced QUEEN's position as unrivalled rock entertainers, Freddie and Brian's performance later in the evening of the poignant "Is This The World We Created" is included. Also featured are 11 minutes of never before seen Live Aid rehearsal footage, plus a rehearsal interview with the band. In addition, there's the curiosity value of a 1982 news feature from U.S. TV series "PM Magazine". Brian May and Roger Taylor bring the story up to date with a brand new audio commentary on the Montreal concert. Track listing: 01. Intro 02. We Will Rock You (fast) 03. Let Me Entertain You 04. Play The Game 05. Somebody To Love 06. Killer Queen 07. I'm In Love With My Car 08. Get Down Make Love 09. Save Me 10. Now I'm Here 11. Dragon Attack 12. Now I'm Here (reprise) 13. | The unofficial Brian May (QUEEN) biography, titled "Brian May: The Definitive
Biography", is a forthcoming 240-page hardback book by Laura Jackson due on October 25. A synopsis of the book reads as follows: "As the lead guitarist of QUEEN, Brian May is one of rock's most recognizable stars. 'Brian May: The Definitive Biography' charts his life from his childhood, through his years studying astro physics and teaching, his success with QUEEN, his more recent projects and his volatile relationship with actress Anita Dobson. The book reveals QUEEN's struggles to get to the top and how hard they worked and played when they got there, throwing some of the most notorious and wildly salacious parties in the business. It charts the camaraderie and conflicts within QUEEN and the role May played in that close-knit unit as well as Brian's difficult years throughout the disintegration of his first marriage, the death of his father and the profound professional and emotional effects of Freddie Mercury's illness and death. The book is packed with nearly 70 first-hand exclusive interviews with some of his closest friends, colleagues and fellow musicians. These include school and college friends, early band members and colleagues in the scientific world. Interviewees include Tony Iommi, Joe Elliott, Richie Sambora, Bruce Dickinson, Raul Rodgers, Cliff Richard and Spike Edney. Bestselling writer Laura Jackson examines closely the many aspects of the musician's life revealing his true story for the first time." For more information, visit Amazon.co.uk.

Rodgers has told Gary Graff of Billboard.com that he's "recorded
some nine songs" with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor,
and that there are plans to return to the studio in October to do some
more work. Rodgers won't commit to a definite timetable, but he
guesses a new album may appear "probably next year the way things
are going," with a tour likely to follow.

QUEEN guitarist Brian May has posted the following
message on his web site: "I was actually moved to write a new page tonight [early hours of June 14], by thinking about our great pal, Jeff Scott Soto. Many of you have been writing to me about the shock of seeing him suddenly erased from the JOURNEY website, as if he had never existed. It's a strange place that I view this from. JOURNEY are, in a way, in a very similar position to ourselves. They have a legacy of hits which people will always want to hear played live. And their singer all through their golden age can no longer perform with them (Steve Perry, a truly luminous singer, in my opinion — a voice in a million). So the JOURNEY guys (I wrote about them just a couple of months ago when they visited — Neal Schon is a fabulous player and an esteemed friend of mine) have a similarly difficult and maddeningly set of options to juggle. "Option 1: They (or we) throw in the towel and say, 'It can never be as good, so let's put on our carpet slippers and live off the past.' In other words, it's over, and all the talent and experience now goes for nothing. (Some 'fans' actually ask for this, unable to let the artists move on.) "Option 2: They go out on tour with a 'replacement' for the legendary singer - someone who looks and sounds like Steve Perry; in this case they find themselves in a stale situation, where they are stuck in the past. I was always against this in our case - I could not stand being a fossil, going out there and effectively saying, "We can't improve on what is past — we have nothing more to say". "Option 3: They forget the name 'JOURNEY' and start from scratch with a new line-up and a new 'image'. I know the JOURNEY guys have been some way down that road. It's brave, but it's very unrewarding, because you tend to end up disappointing all the people who grew to love the old band, and effectively you are turning your back on everything you spent half your life building. Most times you end up playing the old hits anyway ... because why would you not want to play your own music?! "Options 4: They find a singer with something NEW to offer, a new foil, someone who has a musical world of his own, and is worth arguing with! Even someone who can steal some of the limelight. This is what I have LOVED, working with our wonderful colleague, Paul Rodgers — yes, we can play the old stuff, and yes we can be, in a sense, a continuation of QUEEN, but everything is new — the sky is the limit — because, like in the old days, we are working with a brilliant creator, we are sharing a new creative process, feeding off each other's ideas - experimenting, growing. This is what excites me, at the age of ...oh, forget it!!! ha ha .... "When I saw JOURNEY this year, live in London, I felt excited, because I felt they had taken Option 4 by the horns. Knowing Jeff, I knew that he had jumped in without a parachute — he turned around the whole direction of his life, not only into being a worthy part of a great band, but pushing ahead, experimenting, looking for ways to be new, within the framework. I was truly astounded by his range, power, and interpretations, and his contact with the audience. The band looked energised - even dangerous. How cool. "Well, now we get a shock. I know in my heart Jeff would never have walked out on this — he is way too loyal. It saddens me that he seems to [have] been shed like a used pair of boots. Those boots sure covered some good ground. You know, for all the reasons above, it's understandable that JOURNEY might decide to make a U-turn. I just hope that they will be man enough to say so if this is the case, rather than hiding behind some kind of pretence that it was a mutual decision. That's an integrity thing, and a karma thing. You have to own yer own poo. And I hope they will see fit to recognise Jeff's lasting contribution to the family, and realise that he deserves to be treated with respect. And ... I desperately hope they don't go down that other road: JOURNEY is worth a whole lot more than Option 2

Launch Radio Networks has
issued the following report from Bruce Simon: Things continue to move forward with QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS, as the group has been working on some new material for the past few months. Fans have wondered how the sessions are going, and guitarist Brian May recently responded on his official brianmay.com website by writing, "I don't really feel it's right to get into too many details at this point, but, as things stand, in the recent Queen/Rodgers sessions, all three of us (May, Rodgers, and drummer Roger Taylor) have played some bass! (me most of all)." May added, "Whether the tracks will end up that way, I'm not sure - we may invite someone in at some point, but for the purposes of getting our heads together, and evolving not only songs, but ways of creating, it has worked out well just having the three of us, so far." There's been no word yet on when the new material might surface, or when the group might tour again. Rodgers currently has a handful of solo dates booked in the US in April and May.

Launch Radio Networks reports: If all goes well, QUEEN + PAUL
RODGERS will grace us with new music on tour next summer. The group
has been in the studio this year, and QUEEN guitarist Brian
May told Britain's Sky News, "The tracks seems to be coming
out very well, so we'll have to think about whether this is an entire
album, or whether it's just a few tracks, and there's a possibility
we'll go out on tour next summer as well. We're thinking about that."
May didn't say when tourdates might be announced, nor did he say
when they might release the new material. Rodgers first hooked up with May at the 50th anniversary concert for the Fender Stratocaster guitar in London in September 2004, where May backed Rodgers on the FREE song "All Right Now". Both men felt an instant chemistry, and it was confirmed a few weeks later when QUEEN was inducted into the U.K. Music Hall Of Fame. At that event, Rodgers joined May and drummer Roger Taylor for versions of "All Right Now" and QUEEN's "We Will Rock You", and things went so well that everyone decided to take the relationship forward. The group, which played both QUEEN songs and material from Rodgers's days with FREE and BAD COMPANY, did two shows in the U.S. in the fall of 2005, before mounting a proper North American tour earlier this year. PR-inside.com reports that Freddie Mercury's life story is
being turned into a Hollywood film. The legendary QUEEN frontman — famous for such hits as "We Are The Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" — tragically died of AIDS in 1991 and now his former bandmate Brian May has revealed a biopic about his troubled life is on the way. The guitarist told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "There is a film in the pipeline and we're all involved in it. I'm not allowed to say much about it and casting isn't finalised but we've had some incredible offers to play Freddie. Really incredible." May has also lifted the lid on his next project, a new album with QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor. It will be the first QUEEN record of new material since Mercury's untimely death. May said "It's going really well. Is there a track which will be a tribute to Freddie? Well, we're just writing what we want at the moment but it's all a tribute to Freddie. I mean, without him, we wouldn't be here." The rock band's back catalogue is already the inspiration for long-running West End musical "We Will Rock You" and recently a TV documentary, "Freddie Mercury: A Kind Of Magic", was aired to commemorate what would have been the singer's 60th birthday. World Entertainment News Network reports that QUEEN
guitarist Brian May has threatened three bogus bloggers on
MySpace with violence if they continue to impersonate him. The veteran
musician, whose official web site is BrianMay.com, has also
demanded the Brian May chatroom on the popular web site be closed
down to prevent fans from being hoaxed. "Right now I'm feeling more and more powerless, and depressed about the way the Internet is going," May posted on his real web site last Thursday. "It seems nothing is protectable anymore. The Internet seems to have made it easy for any git to pretend he is someone else. "There are now three bogus MySpace 'blogs' pretending to be written by me...and I'm a peaceful person, but, frankly, I feel like going over there and applying a fist or two," he wrote. "Just so you know, folks, once and for all, there IS NO Brian May page on MYSPACE...NOR WILL THERE EVER BE ONE...I am completely disgusted that the organizers of this site exert no sense of responsibility to check that people are who they say they are."

Launch Radio Netwokrs reports: After successful tours of Europe,
Japan, and North America, it looks like QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS have
decided to continue their working relationship with some new material. A
message on QUEEN guitarist Brian May's web site reads, "We
will be heading into the studio in October... There was an intent there
for a while, but we have all been busy picking up our lives in different
ways... but now it really looks as if we are on... We will take it
gently at first, the priority being to feel good, and put ourselves in
the mood to create." More information is forthcoming, and it should be
noted that a source close to Rodgers didn't deny May's
story. May also said the October sessions would be held "at a secret location," and, while that location hasn't been announced, it's worth noting that Rodgers and his band, which includes former HEART guitarist Howard Leese, have booked a U.K. tour for October. There are no plans for May and QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor to join Rodgers onstage. May said, "It will be good to see the Paul Rodgers we all grew up with, doing his own material, from FREE to BAD COMPANY and THE FIRM, plus, I'm sure, a good helping of the pure blues material which is such a main artery of Paul's music."

QUEEN guitarist Brian May was in a recording studio last week to
lay down tracks for the new MEAT LOAF album. May flew to Los Angeles
following the "VH1 Rock Honors" show, and he played guitar on a song
called "Bad for Good". On his official BrianMay.com web site, the
guitarist wrote that the is almost seven-and-a-half minutes long, that it
could have nearly 50 tracks of his playing on it, and that it's "truly
epic and... unashamedly massive! And everything that might be expected
from 'Bat 3'!" The album is officially called "Bat out of Hell III: The
Monster Is Loose", and it's due October 31. The title song "The Monster Is
Loose" has already been released online at the official Meatloaf.net and

According to
ClassicRockRevisited.com, late QUEEN frontman Freddie
Mercury has been immortalized in plastic by NECA (National
Entertainment Collectibles Association), which plans to release the
18-inch-tall figure in late May. The designers portrayed Mercury
as he was at QUEEN's famous Wembley Stadium concert in 1986,
complete with short hair, moustache, and yellow jacket, as well as a
microphone and a mic stand. There will also be a musical component to
the figure, but no further information about that has been announced.
Mercury died of AIDS in November 1991. QUEEN guitarist Brian May saw a prototype of the action figure, and he wrote on his official BrianMay.com web site, "I think the likeness is amazing... it looks like a real tiny version of Freddie... quite uncanny." QUEEN and current frontman Paul Rodgers will kick off a North American tour in Miami in March 3. (blabbermouth.net)

New research by the team behind the popular music annual "The Book
of British Hit Singles & Albums" has revealed that QUEEN has overtaken THE
BEATLES as official UK album chart champions, having spent more weeks on
chart than the fab four. According to British Hit Singles & Albums' unique database of official U.K. chart statistics, QUEEN has spent an incredible 1,322 weeks on the U.K. albums chart (29 weeks more than THE BEATLES). With sales figures notoriously unreliable in the '50s, '60s and '70s, the "weeks on chart" figure represents the fairest, most accurate method of ranking acts, according to David Roberts, editor of the book published by Guinness World Records Ltd. Thirty years since their first UK #1 album "A Night at the Opera", QUEEN has overtaken THE BEATLES in this Top 10 for the first time. Top 10 Most Successful Acts of All Time on the U.K. Albums Chart: 01. QUEEN (1,322 weeks) 02. THE BEATLES (1,293 weeks) 03. ELVIS PRESLEY (1,280 weeks) 04. U2 (1,150 weeks) 05. DIRE STRAITS (1,136 weeks) 06. SIMON AND GARFUNKEL (1,114 weeks) 07. MADONNA (1,032 weeks) 08. DAVID BOWIE (1,005 weeks) 09. ELTON JOHN (989 weeks) 10. MICHAEL JACKSON (966 weeks) (Blabbermouth.net)

According to Soundgenerator.com, QUEEN have today unveiled their
first tour in almost 19 years, with a series of European live dates
starting late March. The 23-date European trek, billed as QUEEN featuring Paul Rodgers, launches on March 30 in Paris, following a warm-up show at London's Brixton Academy. A world tour has long been on the cards since Brian May performed with former FREE/BAD COMPANY frontman Paul Rodgers: "It really all came about because of the Fender 50th Anniversary gig that I did with Paul Rodgers," Brian May said recently on his web site. The European dates, which will be confirmed later today by the band, include shows in Spain, Italy and Germany before a six-date tour of the U.K. Dates in Scotland and Ireland have been put on hold due to Rodgers' other touring commitments, but Brian May revealed they will happen later in the year, saying the band are "conscious that this is a very important omission." Speaking about the North American leg of the tour, May said, "We are at present putting a proposal together for us to play dates in the USA starting end of September or early October." Various fan club sites are reporting the first date to be the Montreal Metropolis on September 8, although this has not been confirmed at time of press. The full schedule is as follows: Mar. 19 – Fancourt, RSA @ (46664 Concert) Mar. 28 – London, UK @ Brixton Academy Mar. 30 – Paris, FRA @ Le Zenith Apr. 01 – Madrid, SPA @ Palacio de los Deportes Apr. 02 – Barcelona, SPA @ Palau Sant Jordi Apr. 04 – Rome, ITA @ Palalottomatica Apr. 05 - Milan, ITA @ Forum Apr. 07 - Firenze, ITA @ Nelson Mandela Forum Apr. 08 - Pesaro, ITA @ BPA Palas Apr. 12 – Vienna, AUT @ Stadthalle Apr. 14 – Munich, GER @ Olympiahalle Apr. 16 – Prague, CZR @ Sazka Arena Apr. 17 – Leipzig, GER @ Arena Apr. 19 - Frankfurt, GER @ Festhalle Apr. 20 – Antwerpen, BEL @ Sportpaleis Apr. 25 – Dortmund, GER @ Westfalengalle Apr. 28 - Hamburg, GER @ Color Line Arena May 03 – Newcastle, UK @ Metro May 04 - Manchester, UK @ MEN May 06 - Birmingham, UK @ NEC May 07 - Cardiff, UK @ Arena May 09 - Sheffield, UK @ Hallam Arena May 11 - London, UK @ Wembley Arena Ticket pre-sale go on sale today (Jan. 17) to members of the QUEEN fan club.

According to
TheRockRadio.com, Brian May and Roger Taylor of
QUEEN made a rare appearance at Dominion Theatre, London, on
Wednesday night (Jan. 12) to mark the 1000th show of "We Will Rock
You" — the musical. Brian May, who exploded to the stage via
a hole on the floor, announced that all proceeds from the 1000th
performance of the show will be donated to UNICEF for tsunami

QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS TO PLAY BRIXTON ACADEMY! - FAN TICKET LOTTERY
The first date of the Queen + Paul Rodgers European Tour will be at the Brixton Academy in London on Monday 28th March 2005. As this is the first date of the tour it should be a hot ticket! Queen and Paul Rodgers have decided to limit all tickets to fans only! Due to the size of the venue and the obvious high demand for tickets, it has been decided that the fairest way to give all fans a chance of purchasing tickets for this prestigious show is in the form of a lottery. It is a deliberate ploy to get tickets straight to loyal fans and not to greedy ticket touts. Tickets for the Brixton show are NOT going on GENERAL SALE. There is a maximum ticket limit of two per registered applicant. Tickets are priced at £55 each and subject to a £4.50 booking fee, plus £4.95 special delivery per order.

QUEEN guitarist Brian May has confirmed that the band will
reunite for a tour with ex-FREE/BAD COMPANY frontman
Paul Rodgers as their lead singer. In a statement at his official web site, Brianmay.com, May said, "It really all came about because of the Fender 50th Anniversary gig that I did with Paul Rodgers. We were both so amazed at the chemistry that was going on in 'All Right Now', that suddenly it seems blindingly obvious that there was something happening here". The shows are a definite for the U.K. and Europe with the rest of the world still being considered. If eveything goes according to plan, QUEEN and Paul Rodgers will be on the road around April 2005. The upcoming concerts are expected to feature both QUEEN and Rodgers material. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.

QUEEN 'AREN'T BRITISH' Queen have lost a court case in Germany, because they couldn't prove they are British! The three remaining members - Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - were suing a German label because they'd licensed a live version of 'We Will Rock You' without the band's permission. They used the German courts on basis that EU citizens can use the legal system of any other EU country. But that backfired when the three were unable to produce written proof of their British citizenship. (Totalrock.)
